When the wind starts to blow and precipitation starts to fall, you know it’s time to turn on the teapot! Keep this list in your back pocket at all times to warm you up and boost your glow:
Golden Milk:
Nothing improves your immunity like turmeric! Blend this golden spice with a touch of saffron and make a latte that’ll stave off flu and cold dangers and improve your complexion. Sip “golden milk” lattes (throughout cool or cold months especially) to regulate your physical and mental health:
- 1 cup plant milk
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon ginger
- 2 saffron strands
- Pinch cardamom
- Pinch black pepper
Warm the plant milk for about a minute, until simmering but not boiling. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 3-5 minutes, then serve.
Warm Water with Lemon:
A squeeze of lemon into a mug of hot water will warm and tonify your body at any time. Cleanse your palate, stimulate your digestion, and clarify your complexion from the inside out with this beverage. Simply heat water and add a squeeze of lemon. Rub the rind on the rim of the mug to add extra tang to each sip. Drop the wedge into the water for visual appeal and therapeutic color.
Matcha Latte:
Matcha is high-quality green tea powder that’s gently whipped with hot water to make tea, or blended with steamed milk to create lovely lattes. Green tea is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, so this drink will improve your complexion with each sip. Matcha has been shown to shrink pores and control sebum production, so this drink is ideal for those looking to balance oily or breakout-prone skin.
Use a plant-based milk to ensure your complexion gets the most out of this gently stimulating drink that makes a perfect afternoon pick-me-up:
- 3/4 cup unsweetened plant milk (recommended: coconut)
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- Agave syrup
Bring the milk to a simmer in a small pot over medium/high heat. Scoop the matcha powder into a heatproof cup, and whisk in about a quarter cup of boiling water, then your plant milk, gently tipping the cup to help create more foam. Sweeten to taste.
Cinnamon Milk:
Metaphysically, cinnamon is known to attract luck—particularly in a financial way. Physically, cinnamon improves circulation and mood. Enjoy a warm mug of cinnamon milk to stimulate your glow and well-being without ingesting a stimulant.
Mix a cup of plant-based milk with a 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, ½ teaspoon agave nectar, and ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract over medium heat, simmering and stirring 3-5 minutes until warm and blended, and serve.
Hibiscus Tea:
Find hibiscus tea at your local herbal apothecary or grocery store. This tea brews a brilliant pink color and boasts a tart, fruity flavor reminiscent of its mood- and glow-boosting qualities. Hibiscus contains malic acid, which helps to soften your skin. Drink this caffeine-free tea anytime to inspire joy and boost your glow. Add a wedge of lemon to amplify this drink’s tartness.
Cocoa:
It can be harder to nourish the body after the harvest. Chocolate contains essential micronutrients like magnesium, iron, and zinc. Try switching up your morning ritual with a cup of cocoa (in place of coffee?), or, enjoy a cup in the evening to stimulate conversation, comfort, and thoughtfulness.
- 1 cup plant milk (recommended: hemp)
- 1 oz bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped
- sweeten (or don’t) to taste with stevia, honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar
- a pinch of pink sea salt
Warm the milk on low heat with the chocolate and salt, stirring gently, but constantly until the chocolate is melted. Whisk until smooth. Serve hot with vegan marshmallows.
