Yin is a super low-activity form of yoga that encourages deep shifts-from-within poses that can be held for long stretches while very relaxed. With the busyness of our daily lives, getting the most out of our “me” time can become an essential skill, and pairing yin and skincare may prove an effective self-care tool. Try matching our (new) PRISM 20% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial with any of these poses to maximize your glow from the inside and out!
- To set the mood and prepare for your poses, put on comfy clothes, tie your hair back, and set the mood with candles and music. Apply these masks onto clean skin, avoiding the eye and mouth area, and begin.
For a ritual that inspires your soul and shoulders to rest while cleansing your internal organs, particularly your digestive system, pair our PRISM 20% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial with a forward-bending butterfly pose, which can decrease anxiety and increase fresh blood flow to the face, boosting cellular turnover and stress release.
With your mask on:
Sit with your feet in butterfly (feet together) or with your legs straight out in front of you. If inspired, prop your backside with a pillow or blanket.
Slowly relax your body forward over the legs, letting the head and torso go as limp as possible. Prop your torso up with an extra bolster, block or pillow for support if needed.
Breathe in to extend, breathe out to relax. Hold this pose for one to three minutes before relaxing into savasana for the remainder of your facial.
For a ritual that inspires your soul and shoulders to rest while cleansing your internal organs, particularly your digestive system, pair our Brighten Pineapple + Gemstone Mask with a reclining supported backbend, which opens the heart and relaxes the body, especially after being hunched over a computer or project all day.
Sit with your feet in butterfly (feet together) or with your legs straight out in front of you.
Lay back on a bolster or stack of pillows by touching your sacrum to the bolster and laying your upper torso backward until the neck, spine and shoulders are even, comfortable, and at ease.
Breathe in and out to relax deeper and deeper into this pose, which may be held for three to five minutes before relaxing into savasana or seated meditation for the remainder of your facial.
Pink Clay Exfoliating Mask + Reclining Butterfly
Our Pink Clay Exfoliating Mask gently exfoliates the skin while providing the moisturizing benefits of French pink clay. Perfect for heart-healing, this mask pairs deliciously with a reclining butterfly pose, which gently opens the hips and inspires self-love cultivation.
While waiting for your mask to dry, take a seated position and bring your feet together into butterfly on the floor in front of you.
Recline back onto your elbows, then all the way to resting on your back, supporting your knees and neck with as many blankets and pillows as necessary.
When settled, place one hand on your heart and one on your stomach, resting for five minutes or longer while focusing on nourishing your gut, intuition, solar plexus and heart. Stay in this pose until ready to stretch out into full savasana for the remainder of your facial.
Blue Tansy Clarifying Mask + Reclining Twist
Our Blue Tansy Clarifying Mask features soothing azulene, an ingredient that can help to soothe irritation and acne by providing anti-microbial benefits to the skin. Relaxing in this mask while lying in a reclined twist will inspire cleansing from within and without, for a fresh start (or cleansing end) to your day/week.
Lie down on the floor, letting your feet stretch out long before pulling one knee into the torso with the hands.
Turn your knee to the opposite side of the body, moving the hip slightly to allow the twist to gently deepen.
Let your arms fall into a T shape, twisting only as far as you can as long as both shoulders stay on the ground. Use a pillow to prop up your knee if it doesn’t reach the ground.
When settled, relax in this pose for three to five minutes on each side.
Feel free to mix and match these masks and poses to suit your unique needs. These rituals are for you to indulge in and enjoy.
Slowly rise out of your pose, rinse off your facial, and pat your skin dry with a fresh towel as soon as you’ve let your mask set for as long as planned.
Follow with a soothing moisturizer, like our Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil, our soothing Lapis Facial Oil and/or our Pink Cloud Rosewater Moisture Creme for a glowing finish to these renewing yin + mask rituals.
