Today would have been Breonna Taylor’s 27th birthday.

In honor of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and all Black folks who have died at the hands of racism and police violence, we have raised $46,000 for Black Lives Matter, the NAACP, and the ACLU.

But we still have a lot of work to do.

Here at Herbivore, we are diving into tough conversations about racism and organizing our plans to fight for Black lives year-round—not only during moments of mass protest, and not only monetarily, but also internally and in our daily lives.

Let’s continue talking—and fighting for Black lives—until we’ve won.

BLACK LIVES MATTER

Founded by Patrisse Cullors (@osopepatrisse), Alicia Garza (@chasinggarza), and Opal Tometi (@opalayo), The Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization whose mission is to end white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.

BLM provides global leadership in the movement to save Black lives. Currently BLM is organizing protests across America in response to the brutal murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others as well as collecting signatures to #defundthepolice.

NAACP

The NAACP is the foremost, largest, and most widely recognized civil rights organization in the United States. Their mission is to secure political, educational, social, and economic rights in order to eliminate racial discrimination. They educate the public on their constitutional rights and fight racism against Black people through the enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.

The NAACP is currently calling on the United Nations to step up and classify the mistreatment of Black people in the U.S. by the police as a human rights violation, and aggressively calling out the U.S. government in the process.

ACLU

The ACLU is the nation’s premier defender of constitutional rights. With more than 1.5 million members, nearly 300 staff attorneys and thousands of volunteer attorneys, the ACLU fights government abuse and vigorously defends individual freedoms. The ACLU Racial Justice Program takes on cases that have a wide-reaching effect on Black communities, supports grassroots movements for racial justice, and educates the public on racial inequality.

The ACLU Racial Justice Program recently filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of journalists who were targeted by Mineeapolis and Minnesota police, and sent a letter to Minnesota officials  demanding that the prosecution of the police who killed George Floyd be taken out of the Hennepin County Attorney’s office and turned over to the Attorney General.

  1. Thank you so much for supporting and being behind the cause. As an African American female, I truly believe change will and is going to come. Thank you for hearing our voice.

  2. Enough is enough! Not all people of color are criminals….Not all whites are racists….Not all cops are bad! IGNORANCE comes in all colors, shapes and sizes. Let’s learn to respect ALL people no matter their color, profession, religion, political affiliation, etc. ALL LIFE is precious.

  3. Thank you for being brave anoigh to stand behind your principles in a way that effects tangible change. You’ve essentially put your money where your mouth is, and that says a lot for a business that in doing so risks losing customers. However, I’m confident you will gain customers, and a greater sense of integrity and purpose for your entire team, in doing so. Here’s to BEING the change! Thank you!

  4. This is great. And I love the products that I have bought so far. But I want to support black owned businesses and businesses that are truly committed to anti racist work. Can you say more about anti racist work within your business? What are you doing to promote equity in your business practices, employment, personnel policies, suppliers, marketing, etc.?

      1. Link is broken. How is Herbivore committing to supporting the BLM movement and encouraging the de-funding of the police state in order to enact actual reparations for Black and Brown folks?

  5. I absolutely commend your donation and your posts on this topic. I hope you will also consider participating in #pulluporshutup and disclose the current state of diversity within your staff and executives and your plan to address lack of diversity if it exists within your company. In addition to short term donations, we also need long term change and I hope you are committed as a company to moving forward with transparency and meaningful action.

      1. Thank you! I love your products and am happy to support a business that is putting in the work to be antiracist.
